The configuration of DataExaminer Single is the ideal solution for firms and agencies with a solitary investigator. This configuration has a single investigator, processing and datastore license that all run on the same machine. DE-Single allows the investigator to add data to the datastore where it is processed, identified, and indexed and readied for analysis. The investigator is able to add data by crawling web sites, hard drives, and data from other digital media.As the data is being processed four separate hash values are assigned to each file: MD5, SHA1, SHA256, and SHA512. When a file be added already exists in the datastore from a different device and it is a match you can be certain of its accuracy. This also allows for categorization of known files and files assigned to a priority level within the data store.
Once data has been added it is automatically correlated to any data that already exists. If there are connections it will be shown in the info tab for that file.
The investigator may find specific data from a web site that will prove beneficial to the case. Use of the URL crawl will bring that data into the datastore. The investigator can also create periodic crawls of web sites if the information is known to change frequently. This will ensure that the investigator won't miss vital information. As data is added to the datastore for future comparison the investigator will be shown when data has been changed or removed from that URL.
Data can be analyzed during a crawl using key and string word searches as well as boolean searches built on the fly.
